Trees today, penguins yesterday...

... let's celebrate nature, every day!

Happy Arbor Day and a belated Happy Penguin Day!  It's an excuse (if we really needed one) to shout out about all things tree and all things penguin! To keep the celebrations alive, why not vote for the only penguin or the only tree to have made it to our favourite species shortlist?

The emperor penguin vs the giant sequoia?

Here are a few facts that might help you decide...

Size is on their side...

  • At over one metre tall and weighing up to 40 kilograms the emperor penguin is the largest of all the penguins.
  • The giant sequoia is world-renowned as the largest living thing on the planet.

One has an unusual start in life, one has an extremely long life...

  • For about 9 weeks through each harsh Antarctic winter, male emperor penguins incubate a single egg laid by its mate.
  • Giant sequoias take around 20 years to reach maturity and start bearing cones - the oldest known individuals are over 3,000 years old!

Of course they both provide an endless source of wonder, but are they worthy of the title World's Favourite Species? Only you can decide - vote today!
